The amount of times that we hear from customers whose feline friends have quickly outgrown their cat tree is really quite remarkable..
Whilst the pictures that we receive of their maine coon squashed into a completely inappropriate bedding area with their legs hanging over the side is quite hilarious image.
We can’t help but want to put our hands into our face and wish that we were in a position to offer some advice to anyone who is taking on a large breed and looking for some appropriate large cat furniture…
It is for this very reason why we are writing this post and have recommended some of the largest and most stable cat trees available on the market today below as well.
Purchasing a large cat tree should really be an investment that you should take quite seriously. As with anything, the larger and more complicated the structure, the price tends to rise relatively sharply..
Unfortunately, whilst there are some products available to find on the market today that are absolutely massive and relatively cheap! The reality is that it will lack the stability and the expert design for it to become a long-lasting and hardwearing product..
If you look at a cat tree just like a building then it is fairly common sense that the larger the building in terms of height, the stronger the foundations it must have to achieve the necessary stability. Therefore, you cannot expect a 7 foot cat tree which has been constructed with very thin scratching posts and an equally thin baseplate to provide the necessary stability for any breed, never mind larger breeds!
The Baseplate for any cat tree over a height of around 6 foot should be at least 3 to 4 cm thick to ensure it is strong enough to withstand all of the action that will take place above it. It is also important to ensure that the baseplate has no less than four screws which connects the base polls to the first level.
All of our large cat trees use some of the strongest and largest bolts available on the market such as the M8 and M10 screw.
It is also important to ensure that any platforms or hammocks that attach to the construction has been well-made as well. Hammocks in particular we recommend that they had been constructed using a metal ring and has a strong enough attachment to the platform as well.
The products that we have listed below can with stand weights of up to 20 kg and whilst these products have been made for cats, some of our customers have also sent us pictures of the dogs happily snoozing within them!
if you have a large floor-to-ceiling cat tree then always keep an eye out for ceiling attachments as well that will also provide additional stability which is highly recommended if the baseplate is not as wide as the entire construction.
The ceiling clamp are fantastic as they cause no damage to the ceiling and can simply be extended until a padded clamp rests tightly against the ceiling and that will provide additional support towards the top of the cat tree.
We absolutely love large cat trays as not only are they incredibly practical for your feline friend. But, they also make really interesting talking points for then your home for humans to admire and discuss as well.
Some of the designs below of our large cat trees are quite simply eye-wateringly good! I hope you agree!
The only downside to having a large cat tree is that you also need to have an equally large space to be able to put them and unfortunately this is a privilege not afforded to everyone. Therefore, rather than having a floorstanding traditional large cat tree we would always recommend having a wall mounted system instead which will take up far less space but also provide plenty of height for your feline to be able to climb and enjoy!
