Cat Sneezing Causes

Just like people, cats can sneeze. Cat health sneezing issues are often related to some of the same issues humans deal with. If your feline is sneezing, there are many possible causes. The best course of action is to watch your kitty closely for other symptoms.

If the sneezing continues or other symptoms accompany it, a trip to the vet is in order. Any time you adopt a new feline, you should schedule a veterinarian examination first thing to ensure your new kitty is in good health. As mentioned before, there are many reasons your cat may be sneezing. Some are quite harmless, others may indicate serious medical issue that requires treatment.

Sneezing may be due to a respiratory infection. Respiratory infections may be caused by bacteria, a virus or even fungi. If your cat has a cold or other type of infection, you may also find that your cat’s eyes are watery or runny. There may also be an accumulation of discharge in the corners of the eyes.

You can wipe the discharge away with a warm, wet cloth although your vet may also prescribe drops to dispel the infection. A less common cause of cat sneezing that should be evaluated as well is a tooth infection. Believe it or not, dental issues can result in sneezing.

Some of the most common causes of feline sneezing is irritation. Your cat’s nasal passages may be aggravated by household dust, harsh cleansers, or even perfume or cologne.

Some cats are very sensitive to environmental pollutants. If this happens to be the cause of your cat’s sneezing, you may want to switch to all natural cleansers, use an air cleaner to eliminate dust from the air and cut down on your cologne or perfume.

Allergies are also a cause of feline sneezing. Just as people suffer from allergies, cats can suffer from allergies as well. Sometimes these allergies will resolve on their own and are seasonal in nature. Other times, these allergies will require treatment from your veterinarian. The difficulty is figuring out whether or not the problem is allergies, the common cold, a respiratory infection, irritation or something else.

Cat health sneezing can be evaluated by your veterinarian. Although the cause is almost always benign, it is important to have the problem checked out. Like with humans, early detection is important for good health in cats.

If your cat does have a problem that needs treated, the sooner treatment is administered the better. A healthy cat is a happy cat, which is what every feline owner wants.
