06 Dec How To Choose A Cat Carrier
When choosing a cat carrier it is important to understand that they are ultimately, safety devices..
When transporting your feline friend from one place to another, it can be a very stressful experience. So, it is important that during this difficult time they feel safe, secure and as relaxed as possible. Common sense right?!
Without your feline friend being contained properly they may well escape after building themselves up into a frenzy! Cats are experts at hiding and escaping, this is a survival trait that works particularly well in the wild.
If you are considering purchasing a cat carrier, then here are a few things to consider before you go ahead and make that purchase.
Is the cat carrier sturdy?
Whilst it may be perfectly possible to carry your feline friend aroundIn a grocery bag, this is obviously a short term solution for one very simple reason. They’re not designed to!
Personally, I have a soft carrier called the Kensington Carrier which has a heavy mesh bottom and solid fixed straps to hold everything together. Not only is it fantastic at transporting your feline friend, but it also looks fantastically stylish as well.
Some cats can weigh up to 20lbs+ so it is important that you have a product back and do the job properly..

How are your cat carrier is engineered is an important thing to look for when choosing the puuurfect car carrier for your feline friend!
Try and find a carrier that has metal reinforcements and a thick plastic base. Also, having a door that can be easily slid open would make life much easier when it comes to putting your cat in and taking them out. Is it has a mesh window as well, your cat will be able to see everything that is going on around them and not feel too claustrophobic and frightened.

Having a large, top opening entrance is especially handy for larger cat breeds, and fluffy felines who are a little more reluctant to get inside.
Make sure to inspect your cat carrier as much as possible prior to purchase and try and pick one that is suitable for your feline friend. Larger cats may require a different set up than smaller, agile ones. When you’re cat carrier arrives, make sure to check all of the catches on the door and the zips to make sure that they are safe and won’t catch on your cats skin.
Is the cat carrier washable?
It is inevitable that transporting your cat can make then nervous. As a consequence, they may happen to release a little accident inside. Having a cat carrier that can be easily cleaned is especially important, particularly if you need to take your cat on several trips out of the house.
A short term solution to this, would be to make sure that your cat carrier has and attached pocket to store cleaning materials. Or, find a cat carrier where the base can be detached and cleaned separately from the cat carrier itself.
Carriers will always require washing after every trip with your feline friend, so making this process is easy as possible is definitely recommended!
