WHICH ROPE IS BEST FOR SCRATCHING POSTS?
SISAL
There are many different types of rope that you can use, but sisal rope is the grandaddy of them all.
Sisal is a coarse, bristly rope which makes it the perfect material for your cat to dig its claws into. Not only this, but it is generally considered to be the most hard wearing rope from them all.
Furthermore, it’s perfectly safe for cats as it is a completely 100% natural material. Sisal rope is relatively cheap these days as well. It could save you hundreds of pounds on replacing that cat tree when all you need to do is replace the rope in the first place!
WHAT SIZE ROPE DO I NEED?
Sisal rope comes in many different diameters of thickness, but generally they would be within the 6 mm to 10 mm range.
The vast majority of our products use an 8 mm sisal which is considered to be far stronger than our competitors that use a cheaper and thinner hemp rope.
We would always recommend buying thicker rope.
HOW MUCH ROPE DO I NEED?
One of the most common issues that we hear about is that customers I have not ordered sufficient quantities of rope! Therefore, it is better to over order than under order.
Once you start wrapping the post it may very well surprise you just how much sisal rope you need!
In order to find out specifically how much rope is required. We have put together this handy guide for you!
Firstly, measure the height of your scratching post.
This needs to be in millimetres (e.g. 1m is 1000mm)
Then, measure the post’s circumference (also in millimetres).
The last figure you need is just the diameter of your rope. (As we mentioned we suggest 8mm)
Now, here comes the maths! Just put your three numbers into the sum: height ÷ diameter x circumference. Voila! You now know exactly how much rope you need to purchase.
It really is that simple!
HOW TO RE-ROPE MY SCRATCHING POST

Re-roping your cat tree or scratching post is incredibly simple! We have included a handy video that you can watch below!
It is very important that the inner core of the scratching post has plenty of glue in order to secure the sisal to the post. This will prevent all the rope detaching from one of the sisal rope sections is cut.
Make sure that you use a non-toxic and pet friendly glue and give it at least 48 hours to dry before reattaching it to the cat scratching post.
