KEEPING COOL CATS WARM IN WINTER!
Providing shelter for stray and feral cats in the winter is critical, especially during the unpredictable winters that the United Kingdom is famous for.
We have compiled a list of some fantastic options, including do it yourself outdoor cat houses, that can be constructed within a matter of hours, or much less if you’re handy with a tool kit!
There are three obligatory qualities that you should consider when looking for an outdoor cat house. Firstly, they must be well insulated and have a little ass base as possible circulating inside the shelter.
Secondly, and it may seem obvious. They must be waterproof so that the interior can stay nice and dry no matter how fierce as the weather gets.

HOMEMADE CAT HOUSE
One very simple way to create an outdoor cat house is using storage boxes which of very common in any local Home Depot shop. Adding some Styrofoam along the inner walls will provide additional insulation as well. These types of cat houses are incredibly cheap to make and will provide a quick and effective solution. You can cut a nice entrance into the side of the storage box making sure to sand down the edges so that there are no sharp abrasions that could hurt the cat.
STYROFOAM COOLER BOXES
This is another fantastic and extremely cheap option to consider to create your own outdoor cat house. Styrofoam cooler boxes are abundant and extremely cheap. They are also incredibly easy to cut entrance holes into the side of a naturally they will provide plenty of insulation to keep the cat cosy. For extra comfort, why not consider adding a nice warm blanket inside as well.
CARDBOARD CAT HOUSE
If time is of the essence and a storm is on its way then check your garage and search for any large cardboard box that you can find. Then, all you have to do is wrap the cardboard box with any thick cloth that you might have and use gaffer tape to seal the cloth onto the box.
For the insulation, you can place shredded newspaper inside the box, making sure to leave the padding a little bit higher at the rear of the box, so that your cat can burrow themselves into the warmth of the newspaper to stay insulated.
PLACEMENT
Why are you place your cat house is also incredibly important. Keeping the cat house near a feeding station is ideal so that they do not have to travel far to stay fed and sheltered. Two of the most basic needs of a cat. Obviously, it is not advisable to leave the cat house out in the open where they can be at risk from predators but also open to all of the elements of the weather.
Find a nice quiet corner of the garden that is nicely protected by some shrubbery or trees that will offer extra protection. Even better, if you have an overhanging part of your house this would be ideal to ensure that the rain does not soak the cat house.
