Where will they sleep? What will I do? How will I tell the kids! etc, the list goes on.

One pertinent question that frequently get asked is; What equipment will our new feline friend actually need?

With so many products available on the market that caters that every possible need a spoilt cats could ever wish for, we I have decided to break it down fewAnd give you an idea of the most important basic cat equipment that you should have prepared for the arrival of your new kitty!

A Litter box.

Yes, this might seem fairly self-explanatory, but it is very important that your feline friend has a special place to go about their business in comfort without leaving a mess within your home.  You don’t need to go to crazy buying expensive letterbox these days. In fact, you can pretty much turn any box into a letterbox providing it has been lined with the garbage bag prior.

It can be said that adult cats tend to prefer a deeper box, whilst smaller kittens generally require easy access. To make life easier, you can create something simple like to ramp to get them up and on-board and crack on with their elimination…

Another important thing to consider with litter boxes is the placement. For example, a tiny kitten would generally need to have their litter box nearby, whilst adult cats tend to appreciate a much more private experience away from the hustle and bustle of a busy household. If you do decide to put the litter box out of sight and out of mind, make sure you clean it and don’t forget!

Food. 

We always recommend canned food as being healthiest choice for your fussy feline, mainly because it generally holds more protein and fat. Adding a little bit of water will also allow them to absorb all the vitamins goodness to the fullest possible extent!

For teeny-tiny kittens especially,  added water will help your felines digestion and making eating just that little bit easier. If they have damaged teeth or are teething, they will truly appreciate that extra bit of effort you make to make their food that little bit easier to digest!

There is nothing wrong with heating the food slightly in the microwave as well. Make sure it is not too hot, but taking it too room temperature is alaways a good idea! They will get very excited by the smell as well!

Toys.

This is another no brainer for your new precious arrival! Don’t panic too much though, as kittens in particular can make a toy out of anything! But, that’s not too say that you cannot add an extra layer of fun to welcome them into their new home!

Simple toys like wand toys, balls, cute fluffy mice will alaways inspire their imagination! But, if these toys have an extra element of fun such as, noising, ringing bells will really get them excited! Don’t forget, cat nip is always a winner and are normally integrated with cat toy’s now as well.

Be extra cautious with hard plastic toys. They can break and form dangerous edges…
